Séance  2018

Motion sensor shifted from one door to the other

By shifting the motion sensor from the automatic door of the main entrance of the exhibition space to the back entrance, Collier researches the social interactions of an exhibition. According to the movement at the back entrance, the visitors will (unconsciously) dictate when the automatic door opens. By trusting people and technology, the work evolves as a process leading to unpredictable outcomes. Séance was a site-specific intervention during the exhibition chapter one ≈ chapter one at BIKINI in Basel, CH.
